The Beat Freakers - Live @ Freakout
[60:55 runtime/ 160kbps / 69.8mb]  / (right click to save) / Tracklisting

Spooky, eh? While we have been talking about cutting a live CD for years, the opportunities never felt quite right. A Halloween gig in 2007 changed all of that. Live @ Freakout is not your mother's "Beat Freakers." It represents a fully realized modern viewpoint that we've merely hinted at before. A viewpoint that, quite honestly, was forged through internal tension. In the end, we decided to scrap the notion of genres in order to focus on the aspects of electronic music that have always spoken to us. We think you'll find that this CD validates the decision, and we couldn't be more excited about the future.

The Beat Freakers - Angel Dust Blues
[75:48 runtime/ 160kbps / 86.8mb]  / (right click to save) / Tracklisting

Ah, Angel Dust Blues. Arguably our most cathardic CD to date. We've held back our new sound for over a year, quietly going about our business collecting the most ridiculous breakbeats on the planet. We finally let it fly on New Year's Eve in Toronto, delivering our best gig to date and confusing / delighting the hell out of everyone in the process. The first half of this disc is a logical progression from "Ghetto Cardio," extremely funky and refreshingly organic. We flip the switch at minute 35 and never look back. Does it work? Is this our future? Are people ready for this from us? We hope so. You be the judge.

The Beat Freakers - Ghetto Cardio
[79:57 runtime/ 160kbps / 91.5 mb]  / (right click to save) / Tracklisting

Ghetto Cardio is the culmination of a wide variety of experiences. Our assault on clubland has fused remarkably well with our party roots, refining our tastes in both directions. More importantly, acquiring a studio and throwing ourselves into production work has completely changed our approach to electronic music, a fact that you will notice in some of our more stylish mixes. The Breaks are dirty, the House is funky, and if you've read my boring commentary to this point, you're going to love this shit.

The Beat Freakers - A Cut Above
[79:34 runtime/ 160kbps / 91.1 mb]  / (right click to save) / Tracklisting

We knew that creating a followup mix to our immensely successful "Underground Burlesque" would be no easy task, but I don't think we realized that this disc would take our style in a completely new direction. Taking our more recent Canadian (we love you Canada) and UK breaks influences and fusing them together with our traditional big room house sound proved difficult, but the results more than exceeded our expectations. In terms of a fully crafted mix, this was our best effort to date, and is still extremely representative of what people get from us live.

The Beat Freakers - Underground Burlesque
[79:51 runtime/ 160kbps / 91.3 mb]  / (right click to save) / Tracklisting

Underground Burlesque showcases a bit more maturity, but is aimed solely at the dance floor. Think of this as a fully realized form of "Booyakasha". We were playing some large gigs at the time, and we wanted to make a professional package that we could shop around and hand out to party-goers. Our 1,000 copies went like hotcakes, and the digital version smashed every record this website has ever had (over 1,200 downloads per month for an entire year). The soulful sounds of Chicago give way to our unique brand of filtered funk, somehow finding its way to end with an all-out techno salsa extravaganza. We stopped messing with Techno after this CD, but I still enjoy the Latin flair at the end.

The Beat Freakers - Booyakasha!
[77:04 runtime / 160 kpbs / 88.2 mb] / (right click to save) / Tracklisting

The mix that started it all and contributed to our genre defying sound. We did this well over 5 years ago, and boy, does it show. A hodgepodge of funky / bangin' House and Techno that we were once very proud of. We must have handed out a thousand of these things, blissfully unaware of concepts such as "sound quality". Somehow, it got us bookings. If you want some older tunes and/or want to hate on us - download away!

Legendary Mixes

Orbital - Live at Maida Vale (July 28th, 2004)
[129:14 runtime / 192 kpbs / 122.6mb] / (right click to save)

I'm not about to go into depth about this mix, because quite frankly, I'm not worthy. Orbital broke boundaries, pioneered electronic music, and gained notoriety outside of an often ignored niche market. They also made "The Box," which has my vote as the most inspiring 4 minutes of music that I've ever heard. If you had the pleasure of seeing Orbital live, this mix should bring back plenty of fond memories. If you never got the chance, download this and cry yourself to sleep.... you missed out.

Guest Mixes

Adam Addison - The Art of Noise
[82:56 runtime / 160 kpbs / 94.8mb] / (right click to save)/ Tracklisting

Everyone knows that any art worth its salt is born through conflict. What would you do if your life was constantly being evaluated and dictated by a foreign government? I'll tell you what Adam Addison would do... he'd continue to pump out futuristic sex music for robots designed to foster their proliferation in direct defiance of god's will. After reading that, how can you possibly not download this? Be sure to keep your ears peeled for his original material produced with Canadian kingpin and all around tall guy Che DuBois under the name of "DuoTone."

Aaron Robinson - Bassmaster Classic
[66:49 runtime / 192 kpbs / 91.8mb] / (right click to save)

Aaron Robison went to the University of Chicago with me, and our friendship was forged by skipping class and spinning records. I've had the pleasure of watching him blossom into one of the most unique DJ's on the East Coast, representing a style that can simply not be pigeonholed. Bassmaster Classic is no exception, winding its way through funk, soul, rap, d&b, downtempo, and glitch. It's nice to see that his insanity is like a fine wine, getting sweeter with age. Nothing but love brother.

Eklectik Dyslexik - Deeper the House, Sweeter the Groove
[66:48 runtime / 160 kpbs / 80mb] / (right click to save)

The Eklectik Dyslexik was born in communist ruled Czechoslovakia to a band of traveling gypsies. His family life exposed him to a communal life filled with rhythmic music and folk dancing, which he would later recontextualize into electronic dance culture. At the age of 12, he was able to escape Czechoslovakia into Austria and eventually fled along the Mediterranean coast until he arrived in Spain, or more appropriately Ibiza, where he discovered acid house music and all night full-moon beach parties.

While in Ibiza, T.E.D. was mentored by Mexico's famous deejay and Zappatista freedom fighter El Blanco Nino. El Blanco, having never mastered reading a calendar, was under the impression that Spain still suffered the facist oppression of General Franco. Upon arrival, El Blanco realized that he needed to occupy his stay another way and their bond was forged.

As his name suggests, T.E.D. suffers from a learning disability. Refusing to give up hope, T.E.D. started a charity fund, which receives 100% of his deejaying fees - "The Bastard Czechoslovakian Learning Disabled DJ Fund," to which T.E.D. is the sole recipient of all donations. Then in 1992 he opened for Oakenfold or some junk. And one time he went back in time and taught Marshall Jefferson and Frankie Knuckles how to cut records... or something... Germany's Love Parade was also totally his idea.

Greg Carlson - Heaven to Hell (The Techno Power Hour)
[61:56 runtime / 192 kpbs / 85 mb] / (right click to save)/ Tracklisting

A guest on my own site, that's pretty shameful. I don't buy Techno anymore, but at one point I was an absolute fiend. This was my 2nd Techno demo made back in the day for radio play, and it actually wasn't too bad. My favorite part is the voiceover provided by my old roomate, who is so Eastern European it isn't even funny.
